Future Home Project

Fifth graders at Cub Run Elementary School participated in the Funkhouser's Future Home Project, where they designed and built model homes.  Each student also wrote about their home design and what home signifies to them. This project allowed students to apply their knowledge of area and perimeter in a practical context. Please cast your vote for your favorite project.  The winners will be announced on Thursday, May 16th.

ALEXA

Hi, I'm Alexa and I will be the only person living in my house. My favorite animals are ducks, I love my house.  It's so adorable. I worked really hard on my house. I put all my hard work into it. This is my dream house, my favorite thing inside my house is probably my room and outside, my red Lamborghini.

BECKETT

I designed my home like that because I need four rooms for me, my sisters, and my parents.  I have a room for my animals because I have five of them. I added two bathrooms because the bedrooms are so far away from each other. There are six animals beds for my five cats and one dog. The dining tables in the middle between the living room and kitchen so everyone can eat and watch shows with my family. We all have individual rooms for out own space. There is a cat post for the cats to play and sleep on, there are toys for the dog and cats to keep them entertained. There is a big TV in the living room for us to watch movies and more together. Those are all the features and designs about my house.

CALEB

I have a big house. I have a garage with an opening door and top. I have a walkway from the driveway to the front porch. You can take the second floor off and the roof to view the inside. I have a pool in the backyard. I have a gaming room with a gaming chair, a PC and computer. By my pool, I have a line and ten other lines. It goes from ten to on hundred feet. At one hundred feet I have a soccer net and I have the feet to mark how far I can kick a ball. I have a bedroom and a bathroom on the second floor. I have stairs that lead up and down. I have a grill and table in my backyard. In my living room I have a stove with a pantry on top. I have a dining table a blue couch, a trash can right beside it and a TV in front of the couch.

HAZEL

When I started to make my house I started to use the things that I have seen in other houses for inspiration in mine. For example the table is like the one at my home. The couch is like my aunt's and the shower is like my Saba's. As I was creating my house I wanted to make it as cute and cozy as possible. For my yard I made a pool (because I love swimming), a path for my house and some trees. I originally made a trampoline inside my house but later I made it into a doggy dog. All I have to say is I have SO MUCH respect for interior designers. For the pink, I thought to myself, "houses aren't pink", then I thought, "oh well I am making the house pink!" I hope you love my house as much as I do!

JAMES

I like my home. When I was creating it, I gave it things that make me happy and things that I have in my actual house. I made the address similar to mine and added things like posters, a mini hoop, a pool and I even put Netflix on the TV to resemble my real home. My favorite thing about my dream home is my bedroom. I like my bedroom because it looks cozy and has my dog's bed in it. I think my house is amazing.

JANICE

This is my home and my mom and dad, my brother, and I live here. It has all the rooms that you would need. Including 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, living room, and dining table. I added plants to it for decoration and because my family loves plants. Home is means family and shelter to me and my family. In the backyard it has a built-in pool for hot days in the summer. My house might be small, but it has lots of room for me and my family.

KAILYN

Me and my dog are going to live at my house. As you can see I did red and yellow as my color and theme. I have a big pool that is dog friendly. Then my window, when you look inside the house, the little girl on the stool is looking at the sun and clouds. Then when you look on the outside you see the little girl smiling!. Then I have a customized rug in my room that has my name, my address 87641 Mcgaheysville Road (it's not actually). I have an office, I tried to make a rug but it didn't work out. There's a drawer in there that has files. I also have a doggy door!

KAITLYN

I love the home I designed. I made this home so I can have extra space for my roommate Kylie and my dog Vinny. I have 2 bedrooms. One for me and one for my roommate, Kylie. In my home I also have included a very spacious dining room and kitchen. The living room has a very comfortable couch. There's also a large TV. In the home there's a front and back door. The kitchen has an island for extra room and cabinets above the counters. This home has 2 bedrooms and 2 and a half bathrooms. I love the home I made.

KYLE

My home is a single family house which is designed for 4-5 people to live in. It is perfect for living and has a small pool. It also includes a small car and a mountain bike. This house is an awesome choice for middle class people and has a fair price. It has everything you need to live. It includes 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, 1 guest room, a garden, and a yard with a grade hall and a living room with a kitchen, and a laundry room in a 1 floor house. It is perfect for most people, so come to my house and have fun!

LUNA

I designed a house with a brick wall on the outside, and white paint on the inside. The master bedroom is my parent’s room, and the other room is shared by me and my sister. The two bowls next to the fridge are food and water for my pet cat, Rose. For me, home means a place to hold your memories. Each memory can have a different emotion. There could be happy ones like taking your first step, or sad ones like losing a loved one. They could be painful, or surprises, either way, they are still memories. A few things about my house that I thought would be different, is the brick wall. Since it took a lot of time, I thought people wouldn’t make the brick wall. I drew most of the counters and things on the walls so it didn’t occupy most of the space. It might be a small house, but at least it contains what I need.

ROBBIE

Hi! I’m Robbie! My house has bricks for the walls. One of my favorite features is my comforter, and it has a lacrosse design on it, because I love and play lacrosse! In the back on the patio, there is a hot tub for relaxation, as well as a big yard with a lacrosse stick and a lacrosse goal. To name some rooms, there is the media room, the bathroom, my bedroom, and a kitchen. Oh, and I have a solar panel on my roof, and my roof is not flat, it is a normal bent roof, and it can flip so people can see the inside of my house! And about four cubic units away from the front door there is a play area, ‘cause even though I’m “older” I still play with cars and other toys sometimes, and do you see the shelf with the cars and the cards on it? Well that’s actually 6 feet tall and mostly filled with books! I put daffodils in the front because our family’s friends used to have them, and they looked really good. All of the doors open, and there is a path from the road to the steps to the front door. The reason why I didn't add a garage is because I would build this right by the school and also near a grocery store, so I walk to get my exercise. I want my house to be a place where I can relax and make friends. I hope you like it!

Unzilla

About my house! For me and my house doesn't really have a meaning for me. But i tried to go with like a girl owning her first house who loves pink! I tried to make it really creative and added small details like magnets on the fridge or posters, flip flops, and a phone. I also have a pool and some plants in the back!
